nic.at successfully implements NIS2 requirements as of 1 October 2026

The Network and Information Systems Security Act (NISG 2026) came into effect on 1 October 2026. With this, Austria has now also implemented the European NIS2 Directive.

The domain industry is primarily affected by the obligation to ensure the completeness and accuracy of domain holder data. Therefore, registrants must cooperate in verifying the accuracy and completeness of their data when requested to do so. This law also requires domain holders to provide a phone number as well as an email address.

nic.at has also successfully transitioned all necessary processes and systems for the .at zone to live operation as of 1 October. The switch from the NIS2 test system to the production system went smoothly thanks to thorough preparation.

We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to all .at registrars for their excellent cooperation, extensive testing, and willingness to collaborate during the extensive preparations for NISG 2026.
