Net-working in space at the nic.at Registrar Day

The fact that net-working is a top priority at nic.at was evident at the 2026 Registrar Day at the VEGA Observatory near Salzburg. The venue at this extraordinary location provided the perfect setting to meet the new managing director duo, Andreas Musielak and Robert Schischka, in person and gain insights into the nic.at universe.

In his keynote speech on cosmic order and digital infrastructure, Alfons Weissenbacher (VEGA Sternwarte) drew some fascinating parallels between the universe and the .at registry.
Another key focus of the event was the implementation of NIS2 in Austria. In addition to the roadmap presented by nic.at, participants were able to learn from a highly informative presentation by Robert Lamprecht (KPMG) how they, as entrepreneurs, can prepare for the directive.

There was also cause for celebration: RcodeZero Anycast DNS, a service provided by sister company ipcom, is currently celebrating its 15th anniversary this April, and Mario Peschl from INWX, secondary customer from the very beginning, was presented with a token of appreciation.
The breaks were intensely used for networking. Registrars also had the opportunity to raise issues with the representatives of the newly elected Round Table. This body acts as the link to nic.at and will take the points raised to the next meeting.

Creative chef Rudi Pichler provided a culinary highlight with his six-course ‘Journey to Mars’ menu, which brought the day to a delightful close before the astronomy experts gave some more insights into the deep space. Although the cloudy sky hindered the sighting of stars and planet, the event hopefully opened up new perspectives and galaxies for all participants. After a break of several years, the revived event therefore was a resounding success and demonstrated one thing: net-working is part of nic.at’s DNA.
