Die Auswirkungen des ICANN-Meetings in Brüssel für die Einführung neuer TLDs
Minds + Machines zieht ein positives Fazit aus dem 38. ICANN-Meeting in Brüssel. Die Tage wurden damit verbracht Kompromisse für Streitfragen zu finden, bei denen noch beim letzten Meeting in Nairobi keine Einigung abzusehen war. Zudem wurde nicht viel Kritik an der 4. Version des Bewerberhandbuches laut und der ICANN-Vorstand hat sich dazu bereiterklärt sich zu einer außerordentlichen Sitzung zu treffen, um die ausstehenden Probleme zu lösen.

UDRP - gilt bad faith auch gegen Dritte?
In einer aktuellen WIPO-Entscheidung zur Domain evoq.com war sich das aus drei Richtern bestehende Panel nicht ganz einig, wie mit dem Tatbestandsmerkmal "bad faith" umzugehen ist, kam aber doch zu einem guten Ergebnis. Ein wenig Unsicherheit für zukünftige Entscheidungen bleibt.

Postal services move into DNS security?
I must admit to being intrigued to be invited to talk at the inauguration of the new 'Global Cyber Security Center' (or GC-SEC for short) initiative. This new body has been set up by the Poste Italiane postal company with a host of supporting parties, such as the Universal Postal Union (UPU) and United States Dept. of Homeland Security. At first glance they seem very odd bedfellows and the slightly stilted opening procedures did little to change that perception.

DNSSEC is but one link in the security chain
As the implementation of DNSSEC continues to gather momentum, with a number of ccTLDs, and now .org having deployed it into production, I think it is worth pausing to consider that while DNSSEC is a significant step forward in terms of securing the DNS, it is but one link in the security chain and is therefore not, in itself, a comprehensive solution to fully securing the DNS system.

IPv6 Basking in the Desert Sun
Tuesday June 29th at the Cisco Live Conference Las Vegas, John Chambers announced their newest product, the Cius tablet aimed at the enterprise market and positioned as a mobility product. That very same day a two hour IPv6 deployment panel, moderated by Cisco's Alain Fiocco, featured Google, Microsoft, Comcast and Tata Communications in front of a room filled to near capacity.

One Billion Internet Users
Last week ICANN took another very significant step forward in the expansion of the internet by approving the delegation of a number of Chinese script IDN ccTLDs. Although we have all heard statements that portray the introduction of IDN ccTLDs as being perhaps the single most important factor in the achievement of ICANN's "One World, One Internet" vision, we should take a moment to appreciate the true significance of this latest round of IDN ccTLD approvals.
