Spamhaus.org changes nic.at listing

Spamhaus.org has partly removed the originally recorded IP address blocks of nic.at from the spam-block list. However, the text for the existing entries has been expanded, which means that nic.at is still marked as “spam support”.

Although nic.at and especially its e-mail traffic are no longer technically blocked after this change, nic.at insists on the complete deletion of these entries.

It is not known why the entries have been changed, as Spamhaus.org refuses any statement towards nic.at.

Recently, Spamhaus.org has accused the .at-registry of administrating 15 domains that were supposed to be used for phishing purposes.

Spamhaus.org was thoroughly informed by nic.at about the legal situation. However, Spamhaus.org has never accepted this legal explanation in an appropriate way and continued to obstinately persist in the deletion of these domains just by declaring and assuming that the domains would have been abused for phishing purposes.

nic.at is the central registry for the Austrian .at-domain. Blocking the e-mail traffic may cause enormous economic harm to every company, as it is already the case with nic.at. In order to ensure the transmission of e-mails from nic.at, nic.at advises not to use lists of Spamhaus.org and to use alternative lists instead. In addition, operators of e-mail servers should use the ISPA Whitelist (www.ispa.at) – a list of legitimate Austrian e-mail senders that should prevent their e-mails from being blocked wrongfully.

nic.at continues to consider taking legal measures against the Spamhaus.org entry.
