announcement numeric domains
Monday, 25. September 2006

During the launch of numeric domains on 09/19/2006, some irregularities have emerged. A nic.at staff member admitted that he had taken personal advantage by misusing his authority as an administrator, which allowed him to register 24 domains more than it would have been statistically feasible.

nic.at reacted immediately and dismissed this staff member summarily.

The CEOs and the Management Board of the Internet Foundation Austria (IPA), in their function as the nic.at ownership representatives, have taken measures to restore a fair status regarding the domains concerned.

Based on a well-founded analysis, we are also working on a package of measures that should prevent such incidents in the future. This will take some time, and we kindly ask for your understanding.

The public, which has a right to be informed, will get information without delay as soon as the case, as well as its conclusions, have been thoroughly determined.

We deeply regret this incident and want to apologise to all domain holders and registrars concerned.

Best regards

Richard Wein
