Structure of the Internet Foundation Austria (IPA)

Management Board

The Management Board of the Internet Foundation Austria (IPA) manages the foundation's daily business according to the purpose of the foundation, which is to promote the internet in Austria - especially to take over the domain administration for the .at-zone. The foundation is the owner of nic.at GmbH, which means that the Management Board also takes the role of the owners’ representative.

Supervisory Board

The Supervisory Board of the Internet Foundation Austria (IPA) is in charge of overseeing the activities of the Management Board and appoints members to the Domain Council in coordination with the Management Board. Two members are nominated by the ISPA, one by Vienna University.

Domain Name Council

The Domain Name Council External Link decides on fundamental naming policy issues and the relationship between the domain holders and the registry. Specifically, the council decides on delegation directives and principles regarding the arbitration office External Link for .at-domains. This arbitration office acts as a conciliation boy in order to resolve legal disputes between registrants and third parties.

Sponsorship council

Via a special sponsorship council, experts from various fields are deciding, which projects are sponsored by the Internet Foundation Austria (IPA) - transparently and objectively. The five members of the sponsorship council are familiar with the internet from its beginning, All members are participating honoraryly and independently from their main occupation. Sponsorships are allocated e.g. via the platform www.netidee.at External Link.

nic.at

nic.at Internet Verwaltungs- und Betriebs GmbH is the contractual partner of the domain holders and handles customer service, data maintenance, registrar support, legal support, as well as invoicing and accounting.

Vienna University Computer Center (ZID)

The Vienna University Computer Center (ZID) maintains the registry database and nameservers. The ZID provides these services on the basis of a contract with nic.at GmbH.
