DNS - US-Regierung schreibt IANA-Vertrag aus
Das US-Wirtschaftsministerium hat den sogenannten IANA-Vertrag neu ausgeschrieben: seit 4. November 2011 können sich US-amerikanische Organisationen um eine der Zentralfunktionen des Internets bewerben. Vieles spricht dafür, dass die Internet-Verwaltung ICANN erneut den Zuschlag erhält.

TLDs - Neues von .asia, .nl und .info
Kaum rückt der 12. Januar 2012 näher, machen die Bewerber um eine neue globale TLD Ernst: Afilias hat angekündigt, sich um das chinesische Pendant zur Endung .info bewerben zu wollen. Das Streben nach dem Cyber-Weltfrieden
Im Rahmen der derzeit stattfindenden IT-Security-Konferenz Deep Sec sprach die futurezone mit dem IT-Sicherheitsspezialisten Stefan Schumacher über die Notwendigkeit den Cyber-Frieden mit internationalen Kooperationen zu sichern, die Belangung von Nutzern, deren Rechner Teil eins Zombie-Netzwerks ist und dass IT-Sicherheit nicht nur eine Frage der Technologie, sondern auch der Psychologie ist.

SOPA: Warnschuss des EU-Parlaments für die USA

Chef von EU-Netzsicherheitsagentur warnt vor Cloud Computing
Europäische Unternehmen gehen zu leichtfertig mit dem Cloud Computing um, warnt die EU-Agentur für Netzsicherheit (Enisa). Gerade mittelständische Firmen gäben dabei sensible Daten aus der Hand, sagte Enisa-Chef Udo Helmbrecht am Dienstag in Brüssel.

Kritischer Fehler lässt BIND abstürzen
Erneut sorgt ein kritischer Fehler im DNS-Server BIND dafür, dass man den Server mit einer speziell präparierten DNS-Abfrage zum Absturz bringen kann. Da viele der zentralen DNS-Server im Internet auf Bind setzen und ohne Namensauflösung nicht mehr viel geht, ist das ein ernstes Problem.

Datenschützer über IPv6 besorgt
Weil die bisherigen Internet-Adressen erschöpft sind, muss ein neues Internet-Protokoll her. IPv6 bietet nahezu unendlich vielen Adressen. New gTLD Program: ICANN Seeks Independent Objector
ICANN is seeking expressions of interest from persons or organizations to serve as the Independent Objector for the New gTLD Program. The Independent Objector shall act in the public interest when determining whether to file an objection to a given application for a new gTLD.

The new IANA: An important milestone
Is there such a thing as a Freudian typo? If so, the new IANA contract certainly contains one. On page 9, it requires the Contractor to promptly notify the NTIA of "any outrages." They meant outages, of course. But we like the proposed language much, much better. IGP has been almost solely responsible for ICANN's outrage notification function for the past six years, and we would be happy to share that duty with others. All kidding aside, the new IANA contract solicitation, which was posted by the U.S. Commerce Department November 10, represents a milestone in ICANN's relationship to the U.S. government.

New gTLDs and the 1%
While Occupy Wall Street and other groups representing the so-called 99% are getting most of the press, the 1% is raising its profile as well, at least when it comes to gTLDs. They are complaining that introducing global choice and competition to the Internet will cost them money. The chief of the Association of National Advertisers (ANA) now says that it has "spent the last few months" considering the new gTLD program, and has found it lacking. They want ICANN to shut the whole thing down.
